Never forget, celebrities are just like us, only they have much more money. It is for that reason some of them think they are above the laws of nature, especially in regards to dental health.
The average Jane or Joe concerned about dental care may pay extra attention to preventative dentistry as that process can prevent greater dental problems from occurring down the line. Ultimately that can save money as estimates suggest that for every $1 spent on preventative dental care is thought to save $8 per $50 per dollar on restorative dental care.
Perhaps influenced by their deep pockets, there are a several celebrities that opt to skip the the tried and true behaviors that contribute to dental health as they may feel that they have the financial resources to dig themselves out of any dental health hole. Jessica Simpson has proclaimed that she does not brush her teeth, instead of practicing conventional oral hygiene, Ke$sh rinses her mouth with Jack Daniels and Kayne West has opted to replace his teeth with gold and diamond dental implants that can cause dental problems down the line. These stars are not the only folks known for making foolish dental mistakes, here is the latest crop of silliness courtesy of 1800Dentist.com.
Hot blond Jenny McCarthy launched her quest for celebrity with a nude spread in Playboy. From there, her fit body, quirky personality and white teeth helped her further her career and overtime her resume has become filled with additional skills including model, comedian, actress, author, activist and game show host. Perhaps her looks combined with her life experiences has given her the ability to laugh off her mistake of accidentally sending a nude photo of herself to her dentist.
Jenny had previously snapped naughty photos of herself with the intent of sending them to her boyfriend, Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher. However, when her son Evan had a dental emergency in the form of an unusually growth in his mouth, the concerned mother took a photo of the infected area to send to the dentist. She accidentally attached the naked photo of herself, oops!
Prior to entering retirement, Iron Mike Tyson was known as The Baddest Man on the Planet and for good reason. He bit off Evander Holyfield's ear during a bout, he spent time in jail for drug possession, was charged with spousal abuse, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and filed for bankruptcy.
Today's Mike Tyson is a very different man from the person of yesterday. Tyson is now a vegan, who spends his time raising pigeons, living paycheck to paycheck and enjoying his family. Of his new life he has said "I'm totally destitute and broke. But I have an awesome life, I have an awesome wife who cares about me. I'm totally broke. I had a lot of fun. It (losing his money) just happened. I'm very grateful. I don't deserve to have the wife that I have; I don't deserve the kids that I have, but I do, and I'm very grateful," (The View, 2010).
It is for this reason, Mike Tyson's smile is generally so broad. But not so long ago his grin was altered when his infamous front gold tooth went AWOL. Of course the tale of his missing tooth is larger than life itself. According to an interview with his wife Kiki Tyson, that tooth was lost not due to dental neglect but instead "...when his tiger, Kenya, head-butted him," (Review-Journal).
Evan Rachel Wood made a name for herself starring in the complicated movie Thirteen, as well as delivering powerful performances in films including Across the Universe and the HBO adaptation of Mildred Pierce. She has accomplished a lot in her few dozen years on earth and because of that she decided to party to celebrate her birthday in style.
Celebrating a 24th birthday is a rite of passage for most. While many mere mortals stay close to home for the occasion or take a weekend trip to Vegas, celebrities have more money and opportunities and therefor can rejoice anywhere they choose. Actress and singer Evan Rachel Wood enjoyed her birthday in Paris, but some rough moves on the dance floor resulted in one of her teeth getting knocked out.
According to a report from People Magazine from the Toronto Film Festival Wood said "It was just past midnight and I was dancing with my friends in Paris, and just boom, I caught an elbow right in the left side of my face. I knew right away when I closed my mouth that something was really wrong." She was treated by a professional dentist and now wears a false tooth to the void.
Even though celebrities have more money than the rest of us, their teeth are still vulnerable to dental problems and mishaps. Individuals without the huge resources of their favorite star are advised to be careful with any images they may send, their pets and while dancing the night away as any of those can lead directly to a conversation with a dentist.
