Reviews From Verified Dental Emergency Patients Near Tampa

Jennifer G.

I was seen quickly after contacting the office though I had not been a patient before. The dentist and staff were warm and professional. Though I was i discomfort, I had a very positive experience and plan to continue as a regular patient.

I have been seeing Dr. Puerto for the past year for several cavity fillings. She is gentle and so sweet and my teeth have never felt better! The front desk seems organized and they are always friendly, greeting you by your first name as soon as you come in. I also had a root canal (eek!) with Dr. Achury and he was also extremely nice and made the process easy despite my being petrified! They are also very accommodating with their hours and have seen me within hours when I had a little dental emergency. I would recommend them highly!

Common Dental Emergency Procedure Costs near Tampa

Knocked-Out Teeth – Average cost: $2,964

Whether you’ve had an accident or you’ve injured yourself playing sport, knocked-out teeth (or avulsed teeth) are a pretty serious dental emergency. When treated quickly, an emergency dentist may be able to re-implant the tooth, saving you lots of trouble in the future. Once the tooth has been placed back in your mouth, it generally needs to be splinted, and you may need a root canal as well. The average cost to treat an avulsed tooth is $2,964.

Cracked or Chipped Teeth – Average cost: $782

Although it’s painful and extremely inconvenient, cracking or chipping a tooth is a pretty common dental emergency. It can be caused by something as simple as biting down too hard, or getting a blow to the face. It’s still very important to act quickly when dealing with a cracked tooth though, as there is the possibility of an infection or worsening the damage, which could lead to the removal of the tooth. Depending on how cracked the tooth is, treatment can range from $782.

Abscessed Teeth – Average cost: $104

Side effects of a tooth abscess can be fever, toothache, and tooth sensitivity, and in some situations, it can even be life-threatening. Due to this, if you think you’ve got an abscessed tooth, it’s important to see a dentist as soon as possible. If the tooth abscess is quite severe, your dentist might need to cut it open and let the pus drain. On average, treatments for a tooth abscess can cost about $104.

Lost Filling – Average cost: $149

Unfortunately, fillings can fall out unexpectedly as you go about your daily life. When this happens, it’s best to schedule an appointment with an emergency dentist to deal with it straight away. To repair your tooth with another filling, the dentist will take an X-ray and discuss your dental history with you. If the lost filling has exposed the nerve of the tooth or a deep cavity, you might need a root canal or a crown. Emergency filling restorations usually cost around $149.

Lost Crown – Average cost: $1,186

A lost crown can be an extremely painful experience, as the exposed tooth tissue is often sensitive to everything from temperature changes to hot and cold food and even air. The first thing to do if you lose a crown is to keep it in a safe place, then schedule an appointment right away with an emergency dentist. Treating a lost crown usually costs around $1,186.

Broken Braces and Wires – Average cost: $119

If you’ve got braces and you’ve broken a bracket or a loose wire, the discomfort and pain can range from mild to extreme. If you are experiencing a high level of pain, you can book in to see an emergency orthodontist immediately so they can fix your braces for you. Not all broken braces are an emergency, but if you need urgent braces repairs, they’ll cost around $119.

What Isn't a Dental Emergency?

If you’re unsure whether your dental issue needs fixing straight away, we’ve got some tips on how to figure it out. If you’re in extreme pain, have a high level of bleeding or have lost a tooth, you’re currently experiencing a dental emergency. Any dental problem that you think can wait for a couple of days probably doesn’t need urgent, out of hours attention. For example, if you have a mild toothache, an impacted wisdom tooth, bruxism, issues with your bite or tooth sensitivity, you most likely don’t need to see an emergency dentist. In these cases, as there’s no immediate need for treatment you might decide to wait and schedule an appointment with your regular dentist instead.

Emergency Dentist FAQ

Are there emergency dentists in Tampa that perform emergency dental services 24/7?

There are plenty of emergency dentists in both Tampa and nearby cities that can offer you emergency dental services whenever you need them.

What is the easiest way for me to book an appointment for an emergency dentist near Tampa?

If you call 1-800-DENTIST®, you’ll be able to find an insurance-matched, emergency dentist in or near Tampa. All you need to do is tell us what service you need, and we’ll sort you out with the right dentist for you.

Can I go to an emergency room to treat dental emergencies?

Emergency rooms can offer limited dental care if it’s not possible to make an appointment with a dentist. If you’re experiencing heavy bleeding without any signs of slowing or having trouble breathing, an emergency room may be an option for you. Otherwise, an emergency dentist will be able to help you more appropriately.

What are the normal operating hours for dentists in Tampa?

Opening hours will vary between dental surgeries. However, most dentists in Tampa open around 7 am and close around 6 pm.

Are most local emergency dentists open on Saturday and Sundays?

While most emergency dentists are open on the weekend and public holidays when regular dentists are closed, it’s better to double-check before going in for treatment.

Do weekend Tampa dentists near me cost more?

Depending on which weekend Tampa dentist you visit, some may cost more. In other cases though, your treatment can cost the same as it would at your regular dentist.

How To Handle Dental Emergencies

Broken Tooth

A broken or cracked tooth is a dental emergency that requires immediate treatment to prevent it from worsening. When waiting for treatment, it’s a good idea to wash your mouth with warm water before applying an ice pack to your lip and cheek to reduce swelling. If you’re bleeding, you can try applying pressure with some gauze until the bleeding stops.

Knocked-Out Tooth

When dealing with a knocked-out tooth, immediate dental treatment is required, ideally within 30 minutes of the accident for the best outcome. If you can, try and reposition the knocked-out tooth within the socket. If that’s not possible or it doesn’t go in easily, keep the tooth in milk, saliva or the inside of your mouth until you receive treatment.

Bleeding Soft Tissue Injury

If you’ve damaged the soft tissue of your mouth, like your tongue, cheek or gums, they can bleed quite a bit. Before you leave for the emergency dentist, it’s a good idea to rinse your mouth out with a salt-water solution, apply pressure with gauze to the bleeding area, and ice your mouth and cheek with an ice pack.

Toothaches

An emergency dentist will be able to gauge whether your toothache needs immediate dental attention over the phone. While you wait for emergency care, you can try using an over-the-counter medication like acetaminophen to treat a toothache, as well as ice packs, topical medication and NSAIDs.

Lost Filling

If you contact an emergency dentist immediately when a filling falls out, they’ll be able to help you figure out the best action plan. You can try using over-the-counter dental cement to cover the surface of the tooth to help with sensitivity, while also applying clove oil with a cotton swab to numb the pain.
