I needed an emergency extraction of a decaying wisdom tooth, I had been to ER the night before and was exhausted! I called them and they got me in the next morning! The clinic was very easy to find and there was no wait! All of the staff was friendly! She got my tooth out in one piece so fast! She was so patient and caring I want her to be my primary! Even the assistant was very attentive and caring! We talked about personal things and they really made me feel safe. With all this great care in the end they gave me a nice discount as I had no insurance at the time and am a single mother. Thank you all so much again! See you all soon!

Common Dental Emergency Procedure Costs Near Phoenix

Knocked-Out Teeth – Average cost: $2,845

A tooth avulsion, or knocked-out tooth, is the stuff of nightmares for most people and - should it become a reality - is a very serious dental emergency. This is where an emergency dentist is crucial – the sooner you get professional help, the better your chances of re-implanting the tooth successfully. The type of treatment carried out depends on how bad the avulsion is and may require root canal and splint work. The general cost of having a tooth avulsion treated in Phoenix is $2,845.

Cracked or Chipped Teeth – Average cost: $751

Teeth aren’t indestructible, so when you’re left with a crack or a chip, you must get it seen to as soon as possible. Even if you think you can tolerate the pain, there’s a chance that the tooth can become infected without quick treatment. Cracks and chips can come in all shapes and sizes, from fractures that reach the root to craze lines, so treatment will vary from case to case. Emergency dental treatment for cracked teeth in Phoenix city costs approximately $751.

Abscessed Teeth – Average cost: $100

A tooth abscess is a serious dental emergency that should be checked out as soon as possible. Untreated, an abscessed tooth can lead to severe complications like sepsis. Your emergency dentist will assess the area and decide on the best treatment, which may include cutting the tooth open for drainage. Treatment costs vary, but expect to pay around $100.

Lost Filling – Average cost: $143

Having a filling come loose will require professional treatment as soon as possible. The exposed tooth can cause pain and be open to infection. Your dentist will have to carry out an X-ray to access the damage and may have to perform a root canal treatment or fit a crown for severe cavities. Restoring a lost filling costs around $143 in Phoenix.

Lost Crown – Average cost: $1,138

Exposed teeth from lost crowns can be a source of huge discomfort, especially when it comes to mealtimes and hot or frozen foods. Losing a crown can be a simple accident or it can suggest decay. Your emergency dentist will be able to find out the cause and treat the tooth accordingly, which may require a simple replacement crown or a deep clean of the affected tooth. Emergency replacements of lost crowns in Phoenix cost around $1,138.

Broken Braces and Wires – Average cost: $114

Caring for fitted orthodontics can be a cause of stress at the best of times, but when things go wrong, an emergency dentist can help fix the issue as soon as possible. Whether it’s a loose wire, a cracked plate or broken braces, these issues alone may not require emergency attention, but they can lead to discomfort and cuts and bleeding of the surrounding area. Repairing braces in Phoenix generally costs around $114.

What Isn't a Dental Emergency?

If you’re in extreme pain, have a high level of bleeding or have lost a tooth, you’re currently experiencing a dental emergency. Any dental problem that you think can wait for a couple of days probably doesn’t need urgent, out of hours attention. For example, if you have a mild toothache, an impacted wisdom tooth, bruxism, issues with your bite or tooth sensitivity, you most likely don’t need to see an emergency dentist. In these cases, as there’s no immediate need for treatment you might decide to wait and schedule an appointment with your regular dentist instead.

How To Handle Dental Emergencies

Broken Tooth

Broken teeth require immediate dental treatment. Once you have contacted a dentist, you should rinse your mouth with warm saltwater and use an ice pack to reduce any swelling that has formed. If the pain is too much, over-the-counter medications can be used, and if you need to stem the bleeding, try applying pressure to a bit of gauze.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Teeth that have been knocked out need to be treated as soon as possible. If you can get to the dentist within 30 minutes, an hour at most, there is a good chance the tooth can be re-implanted. If you can sit the tooth back into its socket until your emergency dentist can assess it, this is the best place for it, but it can also be stored in milk or the inside of your cheek to keep it as intact as possible. Remember to hold the tooth by the crown (the top) and try not to touch the root, as the health of this is key to re-planting it.

Bleeding Soft Tissue Injury

If you are suffering from cuts, grazes and bleeding along the gums, cheeks or tongue, rinse your mouth out with salt water and apply an ice pack to any swelling around your face. An emergency dentist will provide the best treatment to any injuries, but you can also use gauze, applied with a little pressure, to help any cuts stop bleeding.

Toothaches

Toothaches don’t always mean a medical emergency but if they are causing you serious pain then you should definitely have the offending tooth seen to as soon as possible. Over-the-counter medication can help you manage the pain, as can ice packs and carefully flossing the teeth in case food or a foreign object has become lodged between teeth and creating discomfort.

Lost Filling

Once you have contacted an emergency dentist for the refitting of a lost filling, you can help lessen any discomfort by using clove oil and over-the-counter painkillers or dental cement to temporarily cover and protect the tooth and any exposed areas.
