Worst Dentist Ever a Lie: 1800Dentist.com

Some people suffer from dental anxiety and dental fear and a recent story about the world's worse dentist further compounded the issue. Reports indicated that a British dentist got revenge on her ex by removing all his teeth during his recent visit to her dental office for a toothache. Anxiety sufferers are now able to breath a sign of relief as it turns out that the story was nothing more than a hoax.

1800Dentist.com was not the only website to jump on that dental news bandwagon. The story of the jilted dentist dominated the front page of various news sites including Fox News, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Huffington Post, Yahoo! News, MSN, the New York Post, and The New York Daily News. The truth was uncovered courtesy of further investigation from Msnbc.com; reporters for the site contacted police in Wroclaw, Poland to confirm the incident and a spokesperson for the organization stated that there was no such story on record.

The Birth of a Dental Urban Legend

For decades, urban legends have been part of America's storytelling tradition. Typically storytellers believe the tales they are sharing via the urban legends are  true; the latest story of the jilted dentist proves that urban legends (and any reported news) need to be taken with a grain of salt.

The story of the unprofessional dental care provider was attributed to Anna Mackowiak seeking revenge on her former flame. Various news sources that until her revenge, Mackowiak was just another dental care expert in Poland. That supposedly changed when her ex-paramour decided that he could entrust her with his dental health.

Marek Olszewski was suffering from tooth pain and thought he could entrust his ex lover to provide the necessary dental treatments for relief. As the story continues, Mackowiak was quoted as saying "I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions," but she failed at the task and instead ended up pulling out all his teeth instead (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2136265/Dentist-Anna-Mackowiak-pulled-ALL-boyfriend-Marek-Olszewski-s-teeth-dumped-her.html?ICO=most_read_module).

As legend goes, her cruel revenge took place once Marek Olszewski was fully under the effects of general anesthesia. It was during that time that Mackowiak reportedly performed tooth extractions not just on the infected tooth, but on ever single chomper present.

The false story also provides details associated with her criminal intent and suggests that Mackowiak used double talk and extra gauze to hide her actions from her ex.

The Truth

The first report of this fictitious tooth tale was first shared on April 27, 2012. Those stories indicated that local authorities were officially investigating medical malpractice and abusing the trust of a patient charges for the dentist. The reports indicated that Mackowiak was found guilty, she would have faced up to three years in jail.

Additional research into the tale by Msnbc.com indicated that Mackowiak is not listed in the countries central register of dentists. The source further reports "A legal adviser for Poland’s Chamber of Physicians and Dentists, which handles disciplinary matters, said the organization is not investigating and has never investigated any such case," (http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/05/08/11601378-story-of-vengeful-jilted-dentist-was-too-good-to-be-true?lite).
