The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the third largest public dental school in the U.S. Located within one of the most comprehensive health sciences centers in the country, the OSU College of Dentistry offers cutting-edge academic, research and clinical programs.

Academic Programs

Students working toward the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the College of Dentistry at Ohio State are trained in eight academic units representing each of the major dental specialties: endodontics, oral biology, oral surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, primary dental care and restorative and prosthetic dentistry.

The OSU College of Dentistry also offers a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene -- the only program of its kind in Ohio.

A range of advanced education programs are available at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry to prepare graduates for careers in clinical practice, academia or research. Training in their respective programs will certify dentists in the following dental specialities:

- Anesthesiology
- Endodontists
- General Practice Residency
- Oral Pathology
- Oral Surgeon
- Orthodontist
- Pediatric Dentist
- Periodontist
- Prosthodontist

These programs range in length from 12 to 48 months. Upon completion, the graduate earns a certificate of specialty training and is eligible to take specialty board exams. Some graduates of the OSU College of Dentistry may also have the opportunity to earn a Master's of Science degree in dentistry. The College of Dentistry at Ohio State also offers a PhD program in Oral Biology, intended for graduates pursuing a career in academic dentistry or research.

Research & Continuing Education

Research is integral to the College of Dentistry at Ohio State. Students and faculty alike participate in both clinical and laboratory research. The College has a dedicated clinical research center facility to accommodate its clinical studies. OSU College of Dentistry also hosts an annual "Research Day" for students and faculty.

Continuing dental education provided through the Ohio State University College of Dentistry includes both live and online courses. The goal of these continuing education programs is not only to address the current needs of dental professionals but also to respond to changing concepts in the delivery of dental health care.

Community Outreach & Clinic Services

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry takes community service seriously. The school participates in numerous outreach programs including the Appalachian Geriatric Dental Program; the Ohio project, which provides community-based dental care to underrepresented populations; a mobile dental clinic; the Children's Hospital Dental Clinic; and a tobacco cessation clinic.

The OSU College of Dentistry offers primary care and a full range of specialty clinics. Patients can choose to receive care from a dental hygiene student in the dental hygiene clinic; a second-, third-, or fourth-year student in the student dental clinic; a graduate dental student in the graduate clinic; or an experienced faculty member in the faculty practice clinic.
