Patient Care
Howard University's College of Dentistry has been providing dental care in its clinics since its inception in 1881. As part of the students' extensive training, dental treatments are practiced in the pre-doctoral, pediatric dentistry or orthodontic clinics under the supervision of the faculty. Post-graduate students perform general and specialty services, including oral surgery, in one of the clinics located at the College or at Howard University Hospital.
Like many dental schools, patient acceptance is based on the clinical teaching needs of the students and the University. Following the initial appointment and dental exam, patients are assigned to a student dentist for dental treatment. As a professional learning institution, Howard University's dental school provides a broad range of services on a fee-for-service basis.
