Oral health care is incredibly important for children, but some kids may not be getting the dental care they need. Poor dental health not only leaves children vulnerable to tooth decay, but can affect their overall health as well.
Members of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry are working to eliminate childhood dental diseases through Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children: The Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is optimal oral health for all children.
Established in 1987 through the AAPD, Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children supports education, research, service and policy development of oral health care for infants, children and teens. Fundraising efforts are used to invest in the future of pediatric dentistry, and Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children participates in several programs to help increase children's access to oral health care, including Children's Dental Health Month.
Education
Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children recognizes that access to oral health information is important for everyone. Through educational campaigns, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry provides helpful dental information to the public and dental professionals alike. Dentists can purchase activity books, interactive CDs and educational pamphlets to distribute to their patients. These valuable resources help parents teach their children about dental health, and products are available for purchase on Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children's website.
