Tell us about your job at 1-800-DENTIST. I’m the CEO of the company, and YES, I’m actually the CEO. Everyone thinks I’m an actor playing the role, but I promise you, I’m not! (Technically, it’s not legal

to do that in commercials.) As the company spokesperson, I’ve appeared in over 25 of our TV commercials, including our popular elevator spots. That’s the fun part, but coming to work every day and seeing how hard everyone is working to make this a great company makes me very happy.

What’s your idea of the perfect day? I live such a hectic life that being able to chill in my hometown of Manhattan Beach is all I need. A late breakfast at Good Stuff by the beach after a casual

Starbucks morning, followed by a beach day with my wife; walking, reading and swimming. Then a two hour massage in the late afternoon, followed by dinner cooked by my wife and a movie we both agree on (not easy!).Do you have any hidden talents?I used to dabble in improv comedy, taking workshops with the famous Groundlings comedy troupe in Los Angeles and doing some standup as well. These days, if I’m talking before a crowd, I’m probably giving a lecture on marketing, but my background in improv and comedy often creeps in.What have you done that no one would guess you’d done, just by looking at you?I was a cook in a hotel in France for six months back in the mid-seventies.Name one food you could eat every day for the rest of your life.Native sweet corn that grows in my home state of Rhode Island. So good you don’t need butter, salt or anything. Unfortunately, it’s only available for a couple of months a year. What’s one place you haven’t visited that you would really like to see?Antarctica. It’s the only continent I haven’t been to. There is a fairly nasty boat ride through Drake Passage, and I get seasick easily, but I’m willing to endure it to get there. Someday soon!If you could have any superpower, what would it be?Flying. No question. I’ve had so many flying dreams that sometimes I wake up believing it’s possible. What fun, and what a timesaver, going “as the crow flies” wherever you want! What dental secret do you have that you won’t even tell your dentist? If my 23 years spent matching patients with dentists has taught me anything, it’s that it’s not good to keep secrets from your dentist, so I don’t. This sounds preachy, but I’ve seen too many messed-up mouths. I’m keeping my own teeth as long as I can!Why would you recommend 1-800-DENTIST to friends and family?I could write a thousand words about how we screen all of our dentists, ensuring that any dentist on our service is one you can trust. I could also point out the convenience of our service — you can find a dentist at any hour of the day by calling our toll-free number or visiting our newly revamped website, www.1800dentist.com. I could even quote numbers and mention that we’re the most popular dental referral service in the United States, having successfully matched over six million patients with dentists. But it comes down to this —every dentist member that I meet, I’m proud to have on the service. They don’t just practice good dentistry, they care about people. And that’s what we’re about.
