Dental specialties
Dental specialties are areas of dentistry that have met certain requirements and are formally recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA).
Braces, pulp and surgery
Orthodontists treat “bad bites” – usually with braces. If you need a root canal, chances are you’ll see an endodontist, who treats diseases of the inner tooth. For injuries or diseases of the neck, jaw or head, you may need to see an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Kids, gums and tooth loss
Pedodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics are all dental specialties. Pediatric dentists treat children from infancy through adolescence, periodontists treat gum-related diseases, and prosthodontists treat patients with missing teeth.
