The UM School of Dentistry offers a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, all nine specialty programs, dental hygiene, an internationally trained dentist program and an array of continuing education programs for practicing dentists. The school also provides the following postgraduate training programs:
Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency -- A one-year program to provide residents with a broad range of experiences in general dentistry.
General Practice Residency -- Clinicians spend one year training in University of Michigan hospitals with medically compromised and mentally and physically handicapped patients.
Master of Science and Certification -- Available to students interested in advanced studies in dental-related physical and biological sciences, dental hygiene, dental specialties, clinical teaching or research.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery - A six-year integrated program awarding graduates with a combined Oral Surgery and Medical Degree.
The University of Michigan School of Dentistry strives to train its students to be the dental leaders of the future. Its Scholars Program in Dental Leadership for dental students and dental hygiene students requires additional training in leadership skills, effective communication, writing skills and developing creative problem solving skills.
