Tufts University School of Dental Medicine provides patient-centered education to a diverse population of predoctoral and postdoctoral students. The goal is to prepare them to practice dentistry in the 21st century. Tufts offers the following academic programs:
Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) -- The DMD program combines traditional coursework with laboratory and clinical experiences to train students to practice general dentistry.
Dental International Student Program -- Foreign-trained dentists can receive the necessary education and training to be eligible for licensure to practice dentistry in the United States.
Public Health & Community Service -- This department provides outreach programs that bring services and education to patients in need of dental care. Divisions include Education, Advocacy and Outreach; Geriatric Dentistry; Medicine; Nutrition and Oral Health Promotion; Oral Medicine and Public Health Research; and Special Care in Dentistry.
Advanced & Graduate Education -- Tufts University offers the following advanced education programs:
- Endodontics (Endodontists specialize in root canal therapy)
- Oral Surgery (An Oral Surgeon for various types of dental surgery, including wisdom teeth extractions)
- Orthodontics (An Orthodontist for dental braces)
- Pediatric Dentistry (Pediatric Dentist, or "kid dentist')
- Periodontology (Periodontist for gum disease treatment)
- Prosthodontics (Prosthodontists specialize in restoring and replacing teeth)
Tufts University School of Dental Medicine also offers a General Practice Residency program in affiliation with Tufts-New England Medical Center, as well as four fellowship programs:

Continuing Education -- Tufts University considers lifelong learning to be extremely vital. The School's Continuing Education division hosts numerous courses throughout the year.
