Penn Dental Medicine's innovative approach to dental education has earned it a spot among America's top leading teaching institutions. The School offers several programs designed to prepare its graduates for careers in clinical dental care, research and education.

DMD Program -- Penn Dental Medicine no longer offers a DDS degree. Today's pre-doctoral students earn a DMD, or Doctor of Dental Medicine, focusing on the "prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases without limitation."

Graduate Dental Education -- Penn Dental Medicine offers postgraduate programs for dentists to obtain certification in their respective specialities, including:

• Periodontist
• Periodontics/Orthodontics
• Periodontal Prosthesis
• Master of Science in Oral Biology

Program for Advanced Standing Students (PASS) -- This two-year program allows foreign-trained dentists to prepare for licensure in the United States.

Dual Degree Options -- Pre-doctoral students can pursue a master's degree in another program while earning a DMD degree.

Doctoral Degree -- Individual PhD programs are available through the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

Bio-Dental Consortial Program -- High school students can apply to the Bio-Dental Consortial Program to receive their BS and DMD degrees in seven years.

Leon Levy Center for Oral Health Research -- Students and faculty have access to the basic science departments, which include lecture halls, offices and research laboratories.

Robert Schnatter Center -- This state-of-the-art education and research center houses the oral surgery and oral medicine clinics, as well as the admissions office and emergency dentist clinic.

Thomas W. Evans Museum and Dental Institute -- While home to many offices, lecture rooms and laboratories, the Evans Building is the center for patient care. It is home to the main clinic, as well as the clinics for pediatric care, endodontics, periodontics and orthodontics.

Open to the general public, many of the School's dental clinics offer quality care at a discounted rate. Students perform a full range of dental services at the main teaching clinics under supervision of their instructors.
