Founded in 1999 by Dr. Michael Silverman and Dr. Anthony Feck, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) is committed to educating dentists on how to safely and effectively treat high-fear patients. After years of experience in treating fearful and anxious patients, Silverman and Feck realized that they could standardize a system of study to help dentists address the challenges of treating high-fear patients. DOCS aims to provide a curriculum of coursework taught by a wide range of experts who've developed protocols based on studies in pharmacology, physiology and patient psychology. The coursework is offered throughout the year, at various centers across the United States and instructs dentists on the full spectrum of conscious sedation education.
Courses
Oral Sedation Dentistry -- During the introductory course in the DOCS curriculum, dentists learn not only how to treat fearful patients but how to administer dental treatment plans to achieve more dental work in one visit. Patients can experience fewer dental appointments with little or no post-operative discomfort. Through this course, dentists can also learn how to maximize practice profitability and professional satisfaction.
Sedation Solutions -- Caring for Challenging Patients is the next step beyond Oral Sedation Dentistry and is geared for dentists who've already had clinical experience in treating high-fear patients. Sedation Solutions focuses on the treatment of patients with mild to moderate systemic diseases like depression, diabetes and systemic diseases.
ACLS Dentistry -- This advanced level seminar focuses on hands-on dental emergency procedures. ACLS Dentistry distinguishes itself from general hospital courses in emergency management with its special focus on preparing an emergency dentist for a real dental situation. Emergency dentists also benefit from the camaraderie of fellow sedation dentistry students.
