Fred Joyal: Dental plans are insurance plans that cover your teeth and your mouth -which is usually not covered by your medical plan. They can be individual plans or group plans.
With group plans there are several levels. Just like in normal healthcare, HMO's, PPO's and Indemnity plans. Indemnity plans will generally pay for everything except cosmetic care. Whereas PPO's are network plans & HMO's are very restricted minimal care plans.
Most dental plans will only cover normal preventive care; not complicated or expensive treatments. Every plan is different.
And it's important to understand the details of your own dental plan and what is covered and how much is covered in any given year.
